Facts and Opinions

In mathematics and sciences we geneally devide statements into two categories. facts and opinions. and a general concencus is that Facts are the statements which are always true, can be mathematically proven and are accepted as true, universally.  One example of a fact is 1+1=2. Everyone agrees on this fact that adding one with another one will be two. This is such a simple example and a universal truth that people use it in sayings and converstations as example. What If I told you that this is still not a “Fact” ? In fact (no pun intended), In a book named “Principia Mathematic” two mathematicians proved that 1+1=2 and it took them 3 years, 350 Pages and it is one of the most complicated proofs out there. Still to prove this, they used a few “assumptions” which are considered universally accaptable facts, like if two values are 1 and 1, they are equal to each other, which are called “Axioms”. these are essentially opinions which are accepted by everyone.  Long story Short, Th...

Teachers are like candles because they are a ray of hope in the darkness of ignorance and uneducation. Teachers are like candles because they are the the source of energy needed to build a successful society.  Just like we dont burn Candle only for the sake of burning it, teachers also dont work just for the sake of it. We need doctors, engineers, lawyers, accountants etc for the life to keep going. But none of them would exist without a teacher. Teachers are the people who are the first source of a revolutionary idea. They are the most Fundamental source of motivasyon. With or without students, teachers are always teachers. But without a teacher we all are nothing.

The Art of Synchronisation

One of the biggest and most complicated challenges in computer science as well as science in general is the challenge of synchronisation. Weather its to synchronise data or to synchronise two events. To some extent, synchronising data is simpler, but synchronising two events is impossible.  Two physical events happening in real life can never be synchronised. Its mathematically impossible. Why? Well its mathematically impossible for two values in the real world to be identical. For example let's take two stones which are exactly same weight, shape, size and material and drop them exactly from the same height. They will appear to be dropping at the same time but they are in fact not dropping at the same time.  To prove this...

The art

“Occupation is for our life, Our Life is not for occupation”. I recently read this Quote and it resonated with me beyond anything else. Another similar Quote that I heard is that people sometimes ask, “Why art?” and the answer is, “An engineer may build huge bridges, a doctor may save thousands of lives, an accountant may build huge books, But art is what enables them to do these. Art keeps them sane through the challenges and it gives them a reason to build the world. Without art why would they even bother to do anything?”.  There is a term in modern dictionary which is called, “enshittification”. It basically means that the way our world, very heavily affected by European and American capitalism is set up, that with time everything gets worse. The money becomes the biggest motivator for everything and things become worse automatically.  I am seeing a slow “enshittification” of art. People used to write poetry, not to impress the world, but to tell their friends and to tell t...

Losing ones sense of belonging

I had been traveling for more than a week now,  thousands of kilometers away from Home, sitting on a beach with cool breeze hitting my face and the loud ocean waves hitting the rocks, I was completely lost. I didn't know where I came from, where I was going to go or where my "Home" was. My mind completely blank and the only thing I knew at that point was the small hotel room that I had reserved. That was my home. I forced myself to remember where I came from, where I belonged and I saw my home, in a small village in Gaya. Being there, having travelled through so many places, it was hard to even believe that I belonged there. For some reason I just didn't feel like I belonged there. It felt like its been years since I left that place.  It was such a weird feeling. Something I had never experienced before. I have been struggling more and more with mixing in for last few years. I stand out like a sore thumb everywhere, and its hard to  even imagine somewhere I truly belo...

Do not go gentle into that good night

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. - Dylan Thomas

All language is but a poor translation

Recently I came across this Quote by Franz Kafka.  “All Language is but a poor translation”.  Or as I like to say it, “A language is nothing but a poor translation of feelings”. And the more I think about it, It makes more sense.  On first thought, this idea seems conflicting. We made the languages, and every culture in the world should have perfected this skill to be able to express themselves completely, right? Well, Not really.  I am fortunate enough to know more than one language and I can see this gap between languages where no one is really perfect to be able to express ourselves completely.  Even with my native language, Urdu. There have been times when I have felt a certain way towards someone or towards myself and did not know how I could have expressed that. And I am sure you must have felt this way too. There are some things that just can not be expressed in the most perfect way that we would like to express them. No matter which language we use...

Happy New Year!

It’s the Hijri New year today. Does not feel like it, in fact when I woke up today, I expected everyone to have a post about new year on their WhatsApp statuses. But I did not find any, Then I found out that we did not see the moon yesterday. And new year is on Thursday/Friday instead of Wednesday/Thursday, Depending on which part of the world you are in.  In our Muslim culture here, celebrating any kind of date is frowned upon. Birthdays, New Years or even anniversaries. They are all connected with the idea that our deaths are coming closer. so why should we celebrate? and to be fair, it does make sense. with every passing day and every passing year. weather its our birthday or a new calendar year, we all are getting closer to our deaths. and none of us are prepared to what comes after death.  Another reason that people give, for not celebrating any kind of “dates” is the idea of replication of non-Muslim culture. And that also seems true, at least in India, this idea of cele...

The Chained Elephant

A man was travelling through India, He was a foreigner and he had never seen an elephant. He passed through the house of a man who owned elephants. The foreigner saw the elephants chained with a very thin rope.  He asked the owner, "How is it that the elephant does not break the rope and runs away?". The owner smiled and replied. "The elephant does not know that he can easily break the rope. There is no rope in the world that this elephant can not break. So when these elephants were small, we chained them using a thin rope. In the start they tried a lot to break the rope, but they were not strong enough at that time to break them. and slowly they started to believe that this rope was unbreakable and they gave up. This is the only way to keep them chained. The moment they know that they are now strong enough to break the rope and run away, they will easily do that".  There is another common belief that due to the small, spherical and convex nature of an elephant'...

کیا پتا ہم میں ہے کہانی یا کہانی میں ہم

“ Whatever is happening why is it happening ?  You don’t know, neither do I. …. Is the story inside of us ? or are we inside a story?  …. Life is like the water from rain, lets store half of it and let half of it wash away.  ….. Are we a drop in the ocean ?  or, are we the entire ocean?  …. is life more than our needs?  or is it less than what we need? …. Is the story inside of us? or are we inside a story?  ” I love the above lines, they are from a very underrated song. These lines truly reflect this feeling inside of us. Sometimes we feel so smart, so confident, like the entire world was made for us and we are the main character of the story. We take stupid risks without thinking about others. But sometimes we feel so small in the world that we feel worthless. Like the world does not care a single thing about us.  I think reality lies somewhere in the middle, as always. I would like to think that I am a drop in the ocean, at the same time I am t...

Lost in translation

I remember about a movie that I watched. Its called “lost in translation”. I think I remembered about it because I saw a post on social media that its director who was in a relationship with another director had recently went through divorce. And she made this movie to tell her side of story.  The more interesting thing is that a few years later his ex husband also made a movie called “Her” and he casted same lead actress.  The story of “lost in translation” is of a man. He goes to japan for a business trip and gets frustrated with the language barrier between him and the world. He feels very lonely and then he meets a girl, who was also american and had come there with her husband and her husband was so busy in work that she felt neglected. They dont exactly fall in love. but what they showed in the movie felt a lot like extramarital affair to me. And obviosly I did not like it. I dont know why I got reminded of it suddenly, but now that I think of it, the director misunderst...

The conceptions

I have been thinking about conceptions lately. Nothing deep or too philosophical. Just simple conceptions we hold knowingly and unknowingly about everything. About ourselves, about other people, about things, languages, places and our abilities. And I realized that so many of them are simply not true.  As a very blunt example. I used to dislike PHP. Its one of the most used technologies that still power majority of internet today. And I had this conception in my mind that its boring, old and slow. Not good for modern times.  And after an year or so of joining my company. I had to work on PHP. And I worked on it, got good at it and understood it. And fell in love with its functionality and simplicity.  Now that I think a about it, I would put PHP as my favorite technology for building a website. Unless some specific feature is needed from other technologies. Now that I think of it, I should try Java too. A programming language I have passionately hated my entire life. Anyw...

Chapters360.com

Chapters360 is the result of a small pain-point, that I had for a few years now. I think calling it a pain will be exaggeration. lets call it a small annoyance.  I follow a weekly podcast, it posts somewhere from a 2 to 4 hours of news and just random talks each week, on Saturday. and for a few hours, it does not have chapters. or Timestamps. Timestamps are the marking in any YouTube video which tell you about what topic is being talked about at any given time.  And it really annoys me cause I generally lose track of time and topic and end up repeating a lot.  In a few hours a member from these community posts these timestamps. which are very helpful. We call him “the timestamp man” 😄.  Anyways,  I always used to think, “what if a computer can do this? what if a computer can watch the entire video and create these chapters on topic automatically?” And one day I decided to make it myself.  I am not saying that this is the only system in the world which does...

The flower

If you truly love a flower, you don't pick it up to have it. The moment you pick it to have it. It dies and so does your love for it.  But if you come across a flower, Which you love so dearly that you can't live without. Then you don't Try to make the flower yours. You give yourself to the flower. You Build a small house in the garden itself. Where the flower is at it's happiest and and you live there becoming the gardener of the garden.  PS.  A bird falls in love with a fish. But where do they live? So they taught each other how to breathe where they thought they never could.

What is Love?

This Question is probably one of the most asked questions in the world. "What is love?" Many people throughout the time have tried to answer this. Well, I had a pretty amazing realization myself recently.  I believe that the journey is more important than destination. So I will start from the beginning. The story goes like this, I was coming back from my exams and I could not get my preferred seat in either a first or second class coach of the train. I was sitting in third class in the middle of summer. it was pretty hot and crowded, basically a really tough journey. And I asked myself, “Why am I doing this? Why am I going through all this?” and I did not know the reason. Sure there were reasons like, I have to complete my degree or whatever. But they felt shallow. It wasn’t strong enough reason for me to face all that hardship. Then I thought to myself “Do I hate my life?”  and The answer was No. I did not hate my life even at that moment.  It may be funny to you, b...

What is the role of a team leader?

I was writing my exam last week, and in an exam I was asked this question. “What is the role of a team leader?”.  I was supposed to answer it in a few short sentences.  The moment I read this question I almost froze. nothing was coming to my mind, and I thought to myself, why is it happening?  why can’t I write an answer even though I have been leading a team for quite a few years now ? And I would say that I am not bad at it.  After a bit of thinking, I realized, its not that I don’t know the answer. Its just that I can not summarise it in a few sentences.  Anyways, I did end up writing the answer.  But it made me think about What do I know and how much do I not know about the things that I assume I am good at?  There is a term which is called “imposter syndrome”. It happens to some people who are good at doing something. Basically when a person constantly thinks that he is not good enough at what he does, or that he is an imposter hiding among people...

The emotional dilemma

Sometimes I ask this question to myself, and I have been asking this question a lot more lately.  “should we allow our emotions to fluctuate or should we train ourselves to always remain in a stable state emotionally?” To be honest, its really a question of preference, I see advantages and disadvantages in both approaches.  As a man I feel like its quite essential for me to have a good control over my emotions and not let it come in my way of work. And I have been quite good at it. There are instances when I have been in a terrible shape emotionally but I did not let it affect my work even a bit. But this is what is shown on the outside. To the entire world. I am good at it. But I am thinking about inside in this question.  what should happen to it?  From this logic it makes sense to just train myself to be completely emotionally flatlined. Be someone who does not get upset too much when  something goes wrong, or does not get too sad when gets hit with a c...

The arrow, the word and the opportunity

There is a famous quote, people often attribute it to Hz Ali (RA).  It Goes something like this,  “An arrow released from the bow, a word spoken out of mouth and an opportunity that is missed, can never come back”.  I find it so fascinating, We have a translation of this quote as a proverb in Urdu. It goes something like this.  “تیر کماں سے اور بات زبان سے نکل جائے تو واپس نہیں آتی۔” Which is translated as “two things never come back, an arrow which left the bow and a word which left the tongue”  I find it so fascinating, this comparison of an arrow with words feels so much right. Sometimes we don’t realise but our words can be as painful as an arrow for others.  and If we are careless we can hurt them as deeply or more with our words as we can hurt them by accidentally shooting them with an arrow.  and at the end all that is left is regret, regret that we were not careful enough and it hurt them.  I often think about all the stupid and hurtful th...

The Moon and The Earth

The moon is in such a perfect harmony with the earth that the time it takes to rotate on its axis is exactly same time as it takes to complete a revolution around it. There's a scientific explanation for it, but to be honest I find it very calming and beautiful. How beautiful is it that everyone who is alive right now or has passed away has looked at the same moon and the same side of the moon every time? Isn't it?  Sometimes when I feel lonely, I look at the moon. And I tell myself, This is the same moon prophet Muhammad (PBUH) looked at and this is the same moon that everyone I love looks at. No matter where they are looking from or when they are looking. Its the same spherical ball of dust and water, where everyone walks on.  Its like we all are on the same stage. Like in the same room. But the room is big. Extremely big. Yet it's the same place, a familiar place.  It feels reassuring to me. It makes me feel close to those who aren't near me. It makes me also feel cl...

The Yellow Palash

Its the spring again. I can't believe that its been an year since I last wrote a blog. Unknowingly, It has become an yearly tradition at this point. I promise I will try and fix that.  Did you know that there are yellow flowers of Palash? No, right ? me neither, until today. Today I forced myself to go out and see the spring flowers, Especially the Palash flowers, which I love so much. I saw a tree, with yellow flowers, looking suspiciously similar to Palash. I could not believe my eyes. Afterall, Palash flowers are supposed to be red, right? Apparently not, There is a very rare species of Palash that has yellow flowers and my village has a tree of it.  I could not help but think of this tree, its very beautiful, yet no-one seems to appreciate it. Its very special, yet no one seems to notice its existence and its very rare. Its rare to the point where its lonely.  Imagine being that tree, Ugly throughout the year, and when spring comes, you get flowers, you see all the tr...
